WHAT WE MUST (2005)

What We Must is an album by Jaga Jazzist, released in 2005 by the Ninja Tune label. This album was a change of direction for the 10 piece with Martin Horntveth moving to a more permanent position on the drums. This meant the group lost their Drum and Bass feel and began to sound more like a band, with the loss of electronics. The sound of the album has more of a post-rock and nu-jazz sound. The art for the album was by Kim Hiorthoy.

Quarteto Novo (1967)

Though in many ways, these eight songs sound somewhat quaint to undisciplined in the 21st century, the opposite is actually quite true. This meld of styles and the deep interest in subtle yet innovative rhythmic interplay, counterpoint, and taut song structures are to this day quite revolutionary.

Enjoy!

Arthur Verocai ( 1972 )

Brazilian folk-jazz composer and arranger Arthur Verocai was born in Rio de Janeiro on June 17, 1945. The product of a classical music education, he first earned widespread attention in 1966, when Leny Andrade recorded his song "Olhando o Mar" for her LP We Are There. Embracing the contemporary pop, soul, and jazz sounds emerging from both sides of the equator, Verocai gradually honed a sweeping orchestral psych-funk sensibility not far removed from American producers like David Axelrod and Charles Stepney. Despite collaborations with artists including Paulinho Tapajós, Elis Regina, and Creuza Maria, he nevertheless was forced to maintain a civil engineering position until 1969, when he scored the theatrical production Is the Greater and arranged sessions for Gal Costa, Marcos Valle, Quarteto em Cy, and others.

THE HAPPINESS PROJECT (2009)

Sometimes we stumble into these projects that come and go, and we usually don't expect much so much from them, or we expect much but eventually get disappointed by the whole ego thing that messes up most of things in this world.
THE HAPPINES PROJECT comes directly from the mastermind of Charles Spearin (DO MAKE SAY THINK) and is truly a REMARKABLE project.
Based on recordings that he did around his neighborhood, Charles focused on the possibilities from the human voice to create melodies. It's just to beautiful to be true. You gotta listen to believe it.

GIFT GIVERS (2009)

Imagine if Camel sold all their equipments to a bunch of crazy youngsters, and these dudes mashed up and created this crazy post-rock, math-rock, fusionesque sound. This is what you get from from CRIME IN CHOIR, with their power vintage synths and some ass kickin´bass that reminded me sometimes from John Wetton´s masterwork on the King Crimson´s golden years.
